Mexican Talavera pottery has a long history that dates back to the early 15th century, soon after the Spanish conquest of Mexico. When the Spanish first conquered the Puebla region, they introduced new pottery techniques from the city of Talavera de la Reina in Spain to this pottery-making area.
Part of the Nude Selfie Series. This project is meant to celebrate women's bodies and to illustrate that each and every body is beautiful. Her vision is that every woman will come to appreciate and love her own body. She continues to receive daily requests from women to draw or paint their "Selfies". Lemus' hope is that we move away from an unrealistic media ideal of women's bodies and move toward embracing the body that we have been blessed with.
