Inspired by Henri Matisse’s quote, “A Certain Blue Enters Your Soul,” this series explores my longstanding connection to the color blue. I challenged myself to work within a limited palette, using primarily shades of blue to discover the depth, variation, and emotion that can exist within a single color family.
I’ve always been drawn to blue, particularly the many shades and tones found in nature. For this series, I looked closely at the blues of the ocean, the subtle colors found within oysters and their shells, and the shifting hues that occur throughout the natural world. Through these pieces, I wanted to explore how one color can evoke a sense of calm, beauty, mystery, and connection.
Due to the unique handmade nature of ceramics, each piece varies in shape, size, and dimension.
